Thread: Is this the Japanese early 911S?

  1. #1

Thumbs up Japanese built early 911S???

    HAHA, got your attention.

I am a car guy, as we all are, but this car caught me with my pants down. Of course we never got these in the USA, which accounts for my lack of awarenes, but the Nissan Skyline GT-Rs from the early to mid-'70s are amazingly cool machines. My buddy is heavily considering buying the car below and wanted my opinion. I told him to buy a 911, but after researching the Skyline, I LOVE IT. Now look at the specs:

    2500 lbs
    160 HP
    RWD
    5 speed
DOHC 2 liter carbureted six cylinder (inline)
    7250 RPM redline

    WTF?!?! Sounds like a 911S!!!
    Thoughts?

I see a little AMC Javelin, Datsun 240z, Datsun 710 & Ford Torino wrapped into one with this car. The performance sounds decent, but the German snob in me can't get past the Japanese styling

It's no 911 in the elegance dept, but in terms of period kitsch, the car sings.

That particular example is just a hair under $30K.

One early '70s Skyline title signed over to 'Boxster03'

Skinny white girls with big asses and too much eye makeup will probably drop their pants for him if he buys it.

Neat specs but i'd put that kinda cash into a 240 if i had to go early japanese. That car (skyline), however, is probably going to see a nice bit of appreciation in the coming years.

A KPGC10 GTR now goes for north of $80,000 US in Japan, while the later car, like you have there (KPGC110), is a rapidly appreciating machine as well. Despite the snobbery that unfortunately happens towards Japanese classics, the early GTR's are tremendous performance machines and definetely worth a go. In fact, considering its rarity, I would say its a far more interesting machine than an early S, despite my love for those cars too.
1972 Porsche 911T - 2.7 RS pistons and rods, weber carbs, solex camshaft - stupidly sold and deeply missed...
