Dave, good to see the car is coming along well. What bars did you end up going up to?
Motor sounds sweet - and gearing looks really good too!!
See you at the island if not before.

Thanks Alex,
the car still has the standard torsion bars in it! I wanted to see how it handled at Calder before I changed anything. Mark was wrapped in how neutral the car felt. I'm going to leave the bars in it now and just concentrate on finer adjustments on sway bars, etc. The car is really strong now and it will be very interesting to see how quick it is at the Island. The gearbox ratios I think will be perfect for Phillip Island.

Hi Dave
Just wondering was there a reason for / against the bonnet mounted fuel filler as opposed to leaving it under the bonnet? I note the Stimmer ST that Walter Rohrl drove did not have the hole in the bonnet, where most others do.
Also, many ST's have the minilite's and many not ... any reason in your view?
Cheers
Adam
Hi Adam,
The main reason for no through bonnet filler is that the car was really built not only as an ST replica but primarily as competition car that raced in Historic touring cars here in Australia. So I wanted to put a proper racing fuel cell in it for safety.
Most early ST's 70 and 71 had minilites because Porsche didn't make anything larger than their seven inch wheels at the time, so they just puchased the english wheel because they were magnesium(very light).
To take advantage of the new rules of 71 of allowing wider track on their race cars Porsche then made 8x15 and 9x15 light alloy fuchs.
Hope that helps.
Here is some pics of the car at the recent Phillip Island Historics, in this class unfortunately we can only run 7x15.

And for those who might be interested some more in car footage at Phillip Island. This was Marks first race in the car, so car and driver are still getting to know each other. As the builder of the car I was wrapped with the result from the weekend, with Mark coming away with a First in class and a 3rd outright trophy.

Any footage from Winton? ??
Michael
Haven't had time to load it up yet mate!
It's on the list of things to do, along with a number of restos and a newly started 72 ST Replica build
