Thread: 1973 Porsche Parade Monterey photos

  1. #11
I have the last photo at a little higher resolution and zoomed in. The only number on the 2.7 RS is "159" on the rear quarter window. Maybe it's the registration number for the event?

ps.. second set of hounds tooth pants spotted!

That orange custom Targa is a tricked out 911 E owned by Ralph Booth. He makes custom machined parts for Porsches. http://boothedesign.com/
He made up a lot of trick parts for that car including a polished stainless steel top and the custom rear deck lid intake. It also has a lot of chrome detailing. Nice one owner car. He said he might let it go soon. Not Cheap ! I think he said he won that year in Monterey too.

    Wow!

    Thompson- Thanks!
I was there but wasn't "into" all the little bits so I didn't get one single memento. Silly me. It brings back the memories and I loved the cars. I was too errrr ..."cool"... to ask Ferry for his autograph or to think to bring his book to be signed...sigh.

CHUCK- you got more stuff? You willing to add some of that? I can't get enough.
    THANKS. I'm loving it.

Nice... John. I'm glad that posting my photos stirs up archival dusty emotions. The only other item I remember from the '73 Parade we bought was one of those funky black serving plates with the logo right in the center. I have no idea where it went. Was kinda kewl tho.

Krickey! this forum *should* be renamed to the "911 Detectives"!

THAT is so awesome you were at the same event!!! OMG. Such a small world. (MoF, Jerry Woods just sent me an email, I haven't talked with him in ages.)

In all the forums I'm on, It feels really good to call this place home.

I've got a few more special photos coming soon, stay tuned. I'll be talking with John Buffum next week after he gets back from the British RAC rallye.

    RS with 159 Parade Number

It looks to me to have Touring trim below the side script and it also has headrests

Chuck, If you get a chance, bust through that info packet you've got and see if there are any listings for #159...

    RS with 159 Parade Number

As I understand it there were only ever 2 cars with prototype "reverse" Carrera lettering, one in blue and one in red.

The red decal one, originally owned by the sales department, and used for a lot of the sales brochures, was RS017 and is now (maybe was) at Gunner racing as noted by rsr1975 in an earlier post.

Prior to that it was owned by Frank Galgolly. Details including letters from the factory can be seen on their projects page at http://www.gunnarracing.com/

The one with blue prototype lettering was RS015. But as rsr1975 says the red one is not out there waiting to be discovered

The only time #159 RS shows up (or any mention for that matter) is in the results at the track event...

In stead of an autocross they ran the whole Laguna Seca track....
