    price control?

I agree that commercial posters owe it to the board to be straight and identify themselves for what they are, for profit sellers. But with all due respect, who on this board has any right to interfer with the open market and supply and demand? By the way, I am not a commercial seller and have never listed an item or car for sale. To the contrary, I tend to be a buyer. I just think it is inappropriate to intere with anyones right to sell for what the market will bear. Tom

My point is not to hinder a dealer's participation on this site. The more the merrier. As I said, I just think commercial sellers/brokers should identify themselves as such for the sake of transparency. This is pretty common on other boards.

Generally, in my book if you're selling a car that is not titled in your name, you are a commercial seller. Nothing wrong with that but I would like to know this when I am looking at an ad. And I think that if anyone is using this Board to conduct their business, a fee should apply.

Just my two cents in trying to make the marketplace forums less ebay-like.

I've listed cars for sale a few times. Some were mine and some I was just trying to help someone sell. Sometimes I made money or got a small commission, sometimes I didn't........... I don't want to be a used car salesman but it is my goal as a businessman to make money.

However.....I've always felt like I am first and foremost an enthusiast........and as an enthusiast, I try to let you guys know of good cars for sale. I'd prefer cars to go to someone who visits this forum rather than just some dude on Craigslist........or even Pelican for that matter.

I personally don't believe this is a thread to which you would want to post celebrations of the kind, "I saw this coming".

Unfortunately, it's much more than that.

It's a supply and demand situation, no matter what we might want to think otherwise - this leaves lots of room for speculation actually! The downside is that it will cost you more to own some of the stuff you have wanted for years. Think about it.

I am a lawyer in Washington state. In Washington, as in most states if not all states, there are laws to protect consumers from curbstoners("dealers" pretending to be private sellers.) If you sell more than 5 vehicles in one year or if you sell even one vehicle that is not titled to you, you are a dealer and are required to have a business license, post a $30,000.00 bond and meet a number of other requirements that are designed to protect the consumer. The state requires your fingerprints to be on file and a criminal history background check is required.

One wonders how many of the "dealers" on the internet posing as private parties are in violation of their own state's laws. I would imagine that a unhappy buyer would be able to seek civil and/or criminal penalties against these "internet dealers".

Why not require the "dealers" who advertise here to show that they are licensed and bonded as required by their own state's laws?

We should deal with all sellers with a "buyer beware" attitude. However, when the seller is in the BUSINESS of selling cars, we have the right to require that seller to comply with the law. If a buyer feels that he/she has been ripped off as some do here on the forum, then he/she can seek meaningful legal recourse rather than just learning an expensive lesson.

requiring the following statements on all vehicle for sale ads would be one way of dealing with this:

-this car is/is not titled in my name

-i am/am not receiving any form of commission on this sale

it is also good to see that folks like aaron and marco keep their bsns info in their signatures. in aaron's case, for example, if i click on his link i have the opportunity to make a quick and dirty judgement of him. i see a clean shop, celette jig, quite a few beautiful cars (and not in common terms) and, if you will, all the right posters on his wall. if i were to see a car lot with minivans and benzes with big orange signs in the windows advertising todays lowest price i might have a different opinion of his operation and judge his offerings accordingly.

    Flat Six said it best.

Seems now to be becoming a debate of Capitalist vs Socialist theories.

    Anyway-
I am not a dealer and have never claimed to be.
Nor to my knowledge is 'mycarrera2.7' a dealer.
For years I have been an enthiusiast and collector of early 911s .
After viewing 'mycarrera2.7' photo gallery -its obvious he is a hugely addicted as an enthusiast.

Look- I cant tell you how many $60k early 911S cars Ive seen out there for sale; clearly the cars werent bought at that price -but a few will fetch that.

If its not a fair deal -I simply pass.

If its worth it- hey fine -I dont care how much you paid for it -your gain.

My opinion was -Id rather see the cars offered to the enthusiast here on the Reg before going to world stage of Ebay, plus it seemed nice to see all the stuff guys could find.

But nope- forget it -Ebay is less of a headache than hearing the whining here.

    Threads onward -Disappear.

Since I was mentioned by name I will respond in a pernable way,
first and foremost I have been buying and selling early Porsches since 1969, I have a core collection of 15 to 18 cars, most of these cars are registered to me, and are insured by Hagerty.
I do this as a hobby because I love these cars. every car I buy, I buy to keep, and when I get it I have it checked out at my mechanic and get the car in as good condition as possible, so I can enjoy it.
I pay retail for he cars and my mechanic charges me retail for ll the repairs.
I consider myself a collector, not unlike a collector of baseball cards, stamps or coins, I'm constantly upgrading and improving my collection. I buy and sell real estate for a living should you wish to know.
This really is a hobby. In this market I will admit that I sometimes make a profit, and this profit goes into restoring my collector car. I am currently restoring a 1973 911S, a 1972 911S, 1974 Euro Carrera and making an RSR for myself.
Please check this out, last week I flew into Idaho, it was snowing, I purchased a 1973 911T Coupe and drove it back to LA, some 900 miles, in snow and sleet. Click on view all images for a great look of the car and the trip.

I had an absolute blast and bought a beautiful car, made a new friend and will I keep it maybe, maybe not. If a 1973 911S or 911E comes along it will probably let it go for market value, but it will have new rubber seals, a full service, new headliner and will move on in better condition, but in the meantime I will improve the car and make it a better vehicle because I have the funds and the knowledge to do so.
The last car I sold was a CIS 911T coupe that I had owned and enjoyed for 4 years, I have a picture on my desk of my 3 year old girl washing it,
I understand that many people on this board do not really understand what a car nut and collector is, basically someone with a deep love for the marque and the means to enjoy it. My daily driver is alsways one of my Porsches, and I probably drive 20.000 to 30.000 miles a year in early F series cars, because I adore doing it.
For those that want to can me, let them, I am honest and up front with all my dealings, and am under constant scrutiny as I choose to be open.
So for those who are offended about this, they have the choice not to read my threads, or buy my cars or respond to my wanted ads.
"our" Chuck has known me for over 20 Years and if he lets me be on this Board, that should tell you something about me and how I operate, and a lot about him.
As my father once said, you can't please everybody, and I don't try to.
We have a tough, strong and honest group of people here, and I always appreciate input of any kind. That said I am selling a bunch of my cars, as I am taking a new direction, and the wife is getting mighty ****** with having so many cars in the driveway.
Take care all, and happy holidays,
    regards,
    JP
