    67S Going for Restoration

Well the day finally arrived and 307465S is on its way to Europa Macchina for restoration. I had started to break the car down about a year ago, thinking that was a good idea, not........So now the interior is packed with parts and I hope to see her again in slightly improved condition in 18 to 24 months. As the saying goes, "as cash allows". Dennis and Lori have been great to work with to get this project started and I am excited to see what can be done with this well worn(rusted) 911. Thanks to everyone for the referral to Europa Macchina, I appreciate the help on this forum.

As the restoration progresses, pictures will be posted.

It will be in great hands at EM. Dennis Frick has some nice shop over there. I visited last September and saw no less than 10 porsches and about three 4-cams lumps. There was a red 904 getting ready for a resto.

Check out his 'display' of goodies in the back of the shop. Can I say period accessories like headrests. Good luck with the work.

    67S out for Restoration

EM is a beautiful and a meticulously clean shop. I did see the display case of correct parts. Couple of Porsches, excellent company truck, some great cycles.

My first adventure with a Porsche so for me this is going to be an exciting, although long adventure. With my S, they will have their hands full I am afraid.

    Smile 67S Restoration Update

I stopped by Europa Macchina today to get a glimpse of how work was going. Slow and steady is the mantra. Car has had the engine bay, floor pan, front trunk blasted. Good news is no structural damage from accidents, bad news is the little rust holes got a lot bigger. Front end is in pretty good shape, Rockers and floor and rear firewall, etc. are toast. Nothing time and a ton of metal work won't resolve. Found only one home repair that is fixable.

Which media was used? Alu oxide, walnut shells, dry ice?

    Regards,

    67s Restoration Update

Looked like a very fine white sand. A good bit fell inside the car and some is still inside some the crooks and cranny's. Moving to Soda when the do the exterior panels, that I know for sure.

Mark, if you are comfortable with sharing financial details, I think it would be interesting to everybody to know what I guy pays for that much metal work at a name brand shop.

    67S Restoration Update

As we get to it I have no problem with that if EM does not. We are working on a year by year basis with pretty limited funds. EM has worked me into their very busy shop and I am pretty thrilled with that given my lack any Porsche background. This is my first adventure into Porsche and although it is a rusty bucket at this point, the bones are there. This is to be a driver when we are done no a 100 point car. What the difference in restoration between a driver and a 100 point car is I am not really sure I would guess repair versus replace and fix and cover versus fine metal work. We will see.

I saw the "S" chalk marks and other markings today so we are off to a good start. Happy to update as we go along and I have no real issues with posting cost but the reality is that it will vary car by car and by the amount of work necessary. Obviously this one has tons of work to do.
