    Decoding interior colors

I received a note from Porsche that my 1971 911T came with "Interior 31=leatherette beige, middle of seats basketweave." This would be lovely on my Albert blue car, however, I do not have the original seats. Furthermore, the rest of the interior seems to be very original, and all black, with the classic charcoal velour carpet. So, I doubt that the interior was originally beige, but everything else from Porsche checks out correctly, in terms of options and features. Also, the leatherette with basketweave seems likely, because the door panels are leatherette basketweave, and this was such a common arrangement on US delivery cars, like mine.

When I check my fabric samples book for the C series (1970 model year), I find the following codes for leatherette with basketweave inserts: 460=light brown, 560=beige, 760=black. There is no code "31." In fact, all of the codes have three digits. I don't have samples for 1971 D series, but my color code book for 1973 has all the interior codes as three digit numbers, as well. So, the "31" code from Porsche does not fit into the information that I have.

Can anyone help me make sense of this?

    Tom,

Yes there is an order code of 31.
It is here on my colour / interiors chart for a '70 MY ( dd Aug '69 ) as a series combination and is as you have described.
Whether code 31 actually applies to Your car may be an entirely different kettle of fish !
IIRC Hugh Hodges in Melbourne asked a similar question about 12 / 18 months ago re his 2.4 but I can't recall the net result.
If you want to do a search look under HughH.
I will try to do another scan but the interior listings are in very fine print so it may not work.
Someone else of greater computer ability than myself may be able to chime in here !

I will try to post the table I have
not sure how this will work as it is out of an excel spreadsheet

It would seem from this that you were being quoted a 914 interior for order code 31 - not a 911 one which would be Beige / Tan Leatherette Interior panels etc, Beige / Tan Leatherette seats with perforated Leatherette centre stripe

by the way this 2 digit code is added to the end of the 4 digit paint code (1818 in your case for albert blue) to give a 6 digit code 181831 in your case (maybe) which gives exterior colour and interior colour and materials on the Porsche order sheet

    Tom,
The colour chart Hugh has includes some 914 interiors whereas mine is for the '70 911 T E and S only.
My take is that Hugh has a US listing whereas mine is the ROW four language version.
My listing for 31 reads a little differently to Hugh's and is as follows - reading across the page -

    order no. - 31
interior trim - leatherette , beige
seats - leatherette with leatherette basketweave inlays
    availability - standard for T E or S .

Sorry,I can't get the scanner to show this properly - too small !
