Old carpet mats for 73 wanted

I have acquired a LHD 73RS Touring which has the original grey Velour carpets and I am hoping someone has replaced all of their carpets but kept the front and rear mats as my car has had them replaced for some reason when the rest of the carpet is still original and in great shape.

I would love to acquire good condition, original grey velour front and rear floor mats with the pimple backing and rubber foot pad for the drivers side

As I come from Aust. we are RHD so no hope of finding LHD down here.

    Clyde,
If you don't have any luck finding used matching pieces, maybe Coco mats would be an option. They are period correct and still available.

    Rs

Hi Clyde, welcome back in the RS league, this one is even nicer than the one you owned before, a time capsule! That #197 went from Germany to Japan and via the US now down under. It has probably more boat than road miles!

Cees thanks glad to be back in the club.

Yes it is a very very nice car the front trunk area is amazing for its originality even has its plastic horn butterfly still. #197 is much better than #101, even though #101 had a lot going for it, but is still afflicted with a couple of those Japanese changes that happened to #101 also.

There are a couple of minor things that are going to annoy me hence the post for the carpets but in the scheme of things I am sure this is one of the most original RS cars in the world today so I will do my bit to enhance and preserve while still driving and enjoying.

    Carpet

Clyde, you might want to check with Edmund Harris, see this posting:

The thin carpets in that restoration is not what you are looking for but he might be able to help you. The carpet set in my car is black, so there I can't help you either.

    Clyde,
Just saw that you own an real RS and a 74 RS Euro Carrera. How would you compare the two, having driven both back to back? Which is faster, and which one handles better? I won't ask which one cost more

Well I have not driven RS 197 yet but I am reliable informed by previous owners that the experience is awesome

I owned RS #101 and it seemed lighter in the steering (same wheel size and tyre size) than the 74 Carrera and it definately went quicker. I am not 100% sure what the engine internals were though as it was rebuilt before I bought it and I never tore it down to find out. It went hard, bloody hard.

MY 74 Carrera is a Targa so it has a weight penalty also.

I will report in a week or 2 after I have sorted #197 and driven it a bit. It will be interesting to see how #101 and #197 stack up against one another.

Yes, it is and you will not be disappointed one bit. Absolutely fantastic RS.

Congrats you certainly landed on your feet very well after the previous disappointment.

    floor mats

Clyde- I guess I got lucky. I bought my 73S from a fellow in France and shipped it back to San Diego. The car had the original floor mats in it, just as you described. I had a second, everyday set made by Auto's International who is located hear in San Diego County. The materials they use are very close to my originals including the carpet, the dimpled backing and the heel mat on the drivers side. I know you want some originals, but they are probably very scarce, especially in good shape.

Yes if may get them to make some for me and continue the search. Pelican has turned up a possible set and of all places someone with a LHD here in Aust has contacted me also. Go figure.

    Thanks for the info
