    Seeking Oil Cooler Advice

My '67 has a radiator style oil coller mounted in the front which has developed a pin-hole leak in the bottom. It could be braised there, but I'm a little leery as the metal is thin in that area.

I *think* this is the style of cooler used on the pre-Carrera cars. It mounts with two bolts on the inside and has a tab on the outside bottom that attaches to the bumper.

    Few questions:

    (1) How hard is it to find replacements, and how expensive are they?

    (2) Will a Carrera style cooler fit with modifications?

    (3) Would a trombone work in place of the radiator? Would it fit? Would it provide adequate cooling? I use the car at the track for DE days, in addition to normal street driving.

    Thanks for the input.

    Cheers,

    John,

A couple of questions back to'ya…

    - Do you know anything about the cooler and lines on your car now ?
    - Could it be a pre-'69 cooler ? (coolers started being a regular option in '69)
    - Are your hard lines pre or post '71? (The cooler fittings, and stub lines, were 'small' from '69 to '71, and 'big' from '72 thereafter)

All and all, if you have an 'early' set-up you would need and pre-'72 small fitting radiator type cooler.

If you have a '72 or later set up you can use a '72 only big fitting small radiator cooler, or trombone, or 'pipe organ', or later Carrera cooler…. If they'll fit in your '67 fender.

    Hope any of this helps,

    Cheers

The cooler was on the car when I bought it, so I'm not sure what model it is. Can you (or someone else) give me information on how to identify it?

    Thanks,
