Thread: How to disassemble glove box lock/tumbler?

How to disassemble glove box lock/tumbler?

How do I separate the tumbler from the case? Or the yellow section from the red section? I removed the retaining screw and expected it to slide out. I'm able to disassemble my door lock assemblies so I'm a little embarrassed to be asking such a simple question.
I want to make it so that I need only one key for the doors, ignition and glove box. TIA!

I wish I had an answer for you Bob, but I am trying to do the same thing. I just wanted to say great post and I will be looking forward to an answer to the question. I was just going to have a locksmith rekey it to my ignition key.

Damn, even Bob's "circle and arrow" graphics look good! Ya turned it into a Shell Racing lock/tumbler!

I'm of no use here, 'cept to suggest you take to your friendly neighborhood locksmith (cause I would expect it to grenade into 100 pieces if *I* got it apart).

    Bob,

I think there is a tiny roll pin you need to press out.

Per the recommendation of my good friend Rich Sutliffe, I dropped it off at a local locksmith (Bombac's in Walnut Creek). They quoted $50 and even had the rare Ilco DM4 key blanks.

I had my glove box and Targa lock rekeyed in Oregon a few years ago. There was a slight delay as my locksmith had to get the correct wafers. For both locks it cost me $40.00

Wanted to give thanks to Chuck of Bomacs in Walnut Creek (925 935 5071) for great friendly service. Final bill was $54 which included rekeying glove box, 1 ilco DM4 blank and cutting 2 keys. Thanks to all!

Does anyone know of a locksmith who can do this in Denver, Co? Mine can’t. I left a message with Bomacs.

They called back. Chuck retired 4 years ago and now they don’t know how to do it either.

What glove box lock is correct for a 69 911E.

Chris ... As i understand it. This glove box lock is a very secure lock. Very difficult to pick, only a few locksmiths can. Then the problem for re-keying is to have the parts that are unique to this style lock
I had my 912 glove box lock re-keyed to my ignition. I believe my locksmith in El Sobrante ca. used "Chuck" as he was retired. It was difficult because the guy had to dig thru all of his parts that were "put away" to do the job. My El Sobrante locksmith was a "go-between" for the retired locksmith so I do not have a way to reach him directly. Perhaps you can see if the Walnut Creek shop would be willing to be a go-between to reach "Chuck' good luck bob
P.S. If your door. ignition and glove box key have the same key way. You may be better off if you have a key that opens the glove box/or can find someone that can make a key for the glove box. Then have your doors and ignition re-keyed to match the glove box.
