    Paint Code 97-6206-1

OK paint de-coders, what color is denoted by this number on the door post tag of a 67 S: 97-6206-1?

    Thanks for the help,

Probably Silver Metallic enamel from '62-'63.

    6206

67S #305631S also has 6206 paint code. It is 1962 356B Metallic silver.

    Tom,
I don't see that particular code in any of my books. If it follows the the 64-65 and the 66-67 pattern, it would be Irish Green, pure speculation on my part.

A prefix number 97- signifies that the original paint was 140 degree C / 284 degree F 'baking paint', oven cured with all heat sensitive parts removed. Suggestion: Don't try that at home

The 6206 is most likely Silver Metallic and the code is a 356 one. The -1, don't know...yet.

    Exclamation Sheesh!

The clue was '62-'63, the 356 production era.

Tom, you can reference it there.

    Paint Code 97-6206-1

    Guys:

Thanks for the responses; most helpful. The car in question shows evidence of having been silver.

Jens: Thanks for the '62-'63 tip; wonder if the first owner had owned a B in that color that he especially liked.

Dr911E: I have been told that the the "dash one" suffix on the paint code denotes a special order color.

    Thanks again,

More likely not a B in that color but was it the only silver available in 66/67, a Sonderfarbe (special color).

If you still have this car I'd love to compare notes. I have 305628S / 6206. It's now red but started life silver.
