Thread: What gas tank is correct for a 73S?

    What gas tank is correct for a 73S?

    My Italian delivery 73S has an 85 liter tank in it, could that be correct and original? My USA owners manual shows only the metal tank with a full size spare, My original Italian and repro German owners manuals show the metal full size spare tank and also shows an air compressor and colapsable spare. I can't read Italian or German so I am not sure but I think the tank may be original? thanks Ron

    Yeah, what Stacy said. A plastic 85L tank could be ordered in certain ROW markets in '73. Does the date stamp on the tank make sense with build date of your car and the date codes on other original items?

    This is what I know

    The chassis number is 9113300627 the spare inflatable tire has a date code of 11/72 on the wheel and the tank is dated 72. It appears that the date code is ground off for the month of november and december. The months are indicated 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 around the year is this how they did it? Thanks Ron

    Hi Ron,

    Here is good photo showing the date stamp on a plastic 85L tank. The little arrow head points to the correct month it was made. In this case 10/72.

    Seems like the date codes you mention and your car's serial # point to the tank being original to the car which is really cool.

    Note: The tank in this photo has been painted to resemble the original color of the the plastic.

    I think italian spec car are just the coolest 911s of all... for an italian S,
    85l tank,filler bottle or compressor, oilcooler with trobone, no headrests unless ordered, holes are usually pluged, unique lens's front and rear, no hazard switch and the best part no outside flag mirror unless special ordered although most cars you see now will have had one drilled into place, but jagged unround drill holes most of the time give up the clue .. Most Ilatian cars that i have noted over the years were bare bone strippers.

    Lenses

    Can you still get the Italian lenses for the lights? Anyone have a picture of them?

    Different spec horns too.

    And in my case when I came to give the interior a really good cleanout (who didn't do it properly before?) found two Italian coins dated from the 70's hidden in corners.

    Yes, I have just bought two original spec front lenses thanks to Andrea from Italy. (There is a guy in Italy on ebay with repros)

    Picture of Italian turn signal lenses

    Anyone have a picture of the Italian turn signal lens? How about an E bay Item number? Thanks Ron

    Your right Mike... Fiam horns seemed to be the norm..

    Last year there were dozens of 73' Ital spec lens on the market... haven't seen many lately. Try the dealer first,, you never know.. search the forum or web for pictures,,, the clear section in the front travels 3/4 way around, which includes the signal section.

    PS,, you'll need to use a yellow bulb for the front turnsignal and italian spec boxs are wired slightly different than ROW if you have non-italian boxes.
