I've heard the "driven hard" comment before. I probably first heard it back in the 80s when the dollar was very strong and car magazines were writing about "Grey market imports". Many cars coming from Europe were pretty worn out and started to get a bad reputation. I think many of these cars were just unloaded by unscrupulous used car dealers. Its also widely thought European car owners drive their sports cars on regular basis, rain or shine. Many Americans use them just for pleasure driving, in perfect weather. Ferrari owners are the worst offenders, and most of their conversations revolve around bragging about who has the lowest milage and how much they spent on the last belt service.

    Fair enough.

We Americans usually believe that the Germans really drive their cars hard, while we Americans tend to drive and baby our cars.

My car found me, and I got lucky that it was a 69 S Targa; if had been a 68 S, I'd have still been tickled pink.

Old thread...Opinions on SWBs have morph'd considerably since then. I drive my 68 like I stole it

I had a 67S and now I have an early aluminum case 68S and I had a lot of different LWB 911's.
They are all fun in their own unique way and what appeals to some turns other's off.
A few short years ago, like when this thread was started SWB 911's seemed to be the least desirable and the old "newest you can afford rule" was still in effect.
Now the SWB cars are recognized as the first and purist of the S breed 911.
Well the 67S is the most different and arguably better in many ways. Only S with chrome gauges, only S with real chrome window frames and some other really cool early features. But I most admit I like the 68S because a lot of the issues had been corrected, 5.5 wheels, dual circuit brakes, if it has carbs you know for sure the 'band aid' solution IDS carbs are on it. So pretty safe and sorted SWB S.
So I like the SWBS and I find both of them, equally desirable, but they are both different and I like features they both have. I can not chose one over the other. 911's are fun.

Owning a 68S, I can only add that it is the car I enjoy driving most! It is perfectly sorted and modified where it counts, making it a wonderful car for swift country drives.

Just for the record: my March 1968 delivery car already has a magnesium engine block, but still on Webers.
