Sill detail on 65 911

Hello everyone,

We're fixing a few rust spots on my 65 and I lifted the rubber sill covering because it was raised up in a few places. Sure enough, rust.

The surprise was that the sill has a series of rectangular indentations that had been filled with bondo, or something very like it. The rear three filled indentations had rusted. I chipped it out of one unrusted indentation and under the bondo was perfect shiny paint.

Has anyone seen this? It can't be factory, can it? The best guess we came up with was that an early owner didn't like the fact that the sills weren't smooth and flat so he had someone make the sill flat. Of course water ran under the rubber cover and soaked into the raw bondo causing the rust.

Our plan is to remove the bondo, repair the rust, and put back the rubber covering. So far it's still two rust spots below the corners of the rear window and rust in both rockers with no other rust.

From what I remember, what you found was correct for a '65, the factory put it in there to make it flat.
