Can't get my 911R rims to fit my SWB...

I'm actually getting close to getting my '68L project at least mechanically done.

I planned on running Deep 6's with 195/65 and 911R's with 215/60 using Pirelli P6000 tires. My mechanic said that using a 3/4" spacer, the tire just clears the spring plate and will not work for the fender. I now may have to go with 205/60's.

This was the set up I had found works after researching on the board, using 55mm studs and a 10mm spacer, and maybe a little neg camber depending on how much you lower the car. Obviously, I am nowhere near that setup.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

When Dick Barbour set up Hester's 911R's (she has five -one in the trunk), he used 26mm spacers. When I changed tire sizes because the 185/70/15 tires were virtually unavailable, I bought 15mm spacers and the 195/65 (front) and 205/65 (rear) fit nicely inside the fenders. I don't know if your SWB is different.

This is something that worries me, I'm building my 68L into a 911R tribute, but am not putting on the rear flairs. I have 7R wheels, and wonder if its going to be a fit problem. If the 7R wheels fit a SWB then why did the factory put flairs on the 911R?

215/60x15 tires with spacers are too wide for the rear SWB fenders. They will create a crescent-shaped burn area about 2" up from the wheel lip.

You can verify by mounting the tires/wheels in the back, then add weight to the rear while observing the space between tire and fender. Don't use your finger for this procedure.

I didn't do the fitment....my mechanic Monty at Redmond European did it.

But, we do have 7R's on the rear with 225/50/15's. The fender lips are rolled, we have 1/2" spacing, and we had to shave the springplate bolts, in addition there is some negative camber dialed in. I've never scraped or burned anything on the paint yet.

That's because I've never ridden with you; ask Higgy about it.

I read others had done it on a SWB, so I figured the 215/60's would fit.

I may go ahead and try the 205/60 or 205/65's. I have to see what's available for the P6000's.

Thanks for the info. I'll let you guys know.

Going to a 205 will only give you 5mm less on each side, you should be able to get that with a little more negative camber. How much are you running now? A 205/65 is even taller than a 215/60 so you'll still have your fender issue.

Also I'm currently shopping a couple of different tire sizes and sets and heard that the Pirelli P6000 is being discontinued. It is not avilable in 205/65 and the 205/60 is H rated. Even if available check for freshness dating. I just purchased a closeout Bridgestone from Tire Rack for a spare and it is a "brand new" three year old tire.

On my '67 SWB I'm running 911R 7" wheels with 22mm spacers and 225/50's. The inside of the fenders had been very slightly shaved before I got the car. I haven't had any clearance problems. More info here.

    7R fitment

I am running 7R wheels at all 4 corners of my 67S targa. The tires are 225/50 all the way around. the spacers on the rear are 15mm and the fronts are 18mm. The sheet metal has NOT been rolled. I did grind the adjusting bolts on the rear trailing arm for a little more clearance. The 215/60 are taller than the 225/50s and that may be the difference. tom
