do you know what the 22 refers to in Picture # 3 - Car & driver (wagen # 22, Waldegard)?

it cant be the start number that was 37
it cant be the licence plate that was SL 2263 and the other cars at the event were SL 2264,5,6
could it be the last 2 numbers of the chassis number?
or did they have an unknown (to me) other numbering system for the factory rallye cars of the era like the R series for the 1973 RSR's ie R2 R3 etc?

Doesn't the R code refers to the martini version ? This code with the number was then added to the serial number ...

in the R series of cars it does represent the factory prototype 911RSR race team over 1973 and 4 , which was sponsored by martini. they are all well known and documented by their "R" number more so than their actual chassis number

i was wondering if this practice and secondary internal numbering system may have also existed in the 1960's for these rallye cars. There was a stable of least a dozen factory rallye 911's over a period of a few years and i thought that maybe they had their own internal numbering system as well

Matt/Hugh - that little label caught my eye immediately. Here is a foto I took of an unrestored RSH with an "F23" label. Never could quite figure out what it referred to. Didn't match up with the serial number.

Not as cool as a Carrera GT or an RS, but a satanic detail that demonstrates just how far over the edge I've gone.

I love my GTS Nurburgring seats, but I always thought the head rests were a little weak. They don't feel very substantial (foam stuffed in vinyl) and the rods are too short to raise them to a height that might prevent a neck injury. So, while I was down in the Porsche parts vault the other day looking for stuff to sell at JW's swap meet, I found some original, I think '67, head rests. The rods are longer and they swivel forward and back. And, they fit the GTS seats (thanks Stefan).

Much better, in my opinion. Ignore the blue leaf hanging off the wiper stalk...we got wet the other day and I'm freshening the interior.
