    carpet

Autos international has the correct salt and pepper. Probably Tony's Autobahn Interiors has as well. But what about the orignal padding? That is from GAHH in North Hollywood California.

Although not original, I've heard that the sound deadening, foam rubber sheeting, from Aircraft Spruce, offers both sound control and padding.

I decided to just put SKS on the floor and then carpet over that. Im scared that anything on the floor may let some moisture get in there and after replacing everything that I just did, Im a bit paranoid about rust

Don't blame you for that. I am on the fence, but the Aircraft Spruce stuff is closed cell foam. i.e. it doesn't let water through and i imagine that it wont hold any water either. I ordered some and I have it on my shelf to check out. I'll let you know what I think.

PS: My carpet set, from Tony, was delivered yesterday. Very nice stuff.

The carpet that is available is darker then original.

I started another thread with photos of NOS carpets that are lighter then what is available.. Tonys are great and close in color but not 100% dead on..

    "
I have a NOS Velour roll that is about 25 years old and it is different then what has been around for many years.(see photo 1). The corner that was covered of the used original carpet is exactly like the roll that I have.

The velour carpets available for the past 10-15+ years is close in color but not dead on! The new German Velour carpet is darker (more black) then the original (see photo 1/2).. As Tony from Autobahn described it in a the other thread "Salt and pepper...black with grey threads" the original is more evenly mixed black/grey.

The new German velour is also white on the back while the original was black(see photo 4). The new carpet is also just a tiny bit shorter (1/16) in the length of the pile. The new carpet is not as heavily bound . It is very high quality german carpet but not as high quality as the 1960s-70s carpet.

The sound deadening is glued and bound only on the floor carpets. The sound deadening is like a highly compressed horse hair with round spots (see photo 3). This sound deadening material is not available but can be pulled off the original carpets and reinstalled on the new carpets and still look original!

These are my observations any more input is appreciated.."

Al, I look forward to hearing what you think about the Aircraft Spruce Stuff. Please shoot me a PM with your thoughts. I may want to do the same. Thanks, Mark
