Thread: Best way to check oil pressure on a 65?

    Very low oil pressure at idle seems to be a "feature" of the 901/01 engine.

    The car has one of the high mileage 20w50 oils in it now. The plan was to run that for 200 miles and then change to my usual Swepco 301.

    I wasn't worried about the 0 pressure at idle. It's the lack of higher than 30-40 pressure at higher RPMs that worried me. I'll follow John's advice and get a real gauge and find out what the pressure is. The way the pressure goes up to a certain point then drops back down on the dash gauge really makes me wonder about a flaky gauge or sender. Still, I'm not going to lunch a good engine by assuming everything is OK.
