I debated the title; glad you looked!
The car isn't going to be a race car, just have a race car motor. It should come in just a little under factory weight. Not by much, though. Comfort will be as important as the "go fast" bits in this car.

Can you explain what these terms mean?
1. ovaled ports
2. offset ports
3. 'D'ed ports
Thanks?
Offset is more apparent on the intake. The bore was not centered in the old port to optimize airflow. The 'D' doesn't show well in the photos; the exhaust port is flatter and has a little dimpled area intruding into the port to direct airflow. The ports are not true ovals, they just aren't perfectly round.

What are the 3 darker, dull gray spots around the valve guide?
Have the heads been tested to determine the optimum surface roughness as far as boundary layer turbulence is concerned? Smoother can give faster airflow but turbulence mixes the air and fuel more...

Dull gray areas are the remaining surfaces of the original casting. I didn't want to pay to have them built up and remachined. Effect would be negligible. Extrudehoning was considered to condition the surface, but we were very happy with the heads after they were flow dynoed.

Kenikh-
You mention the four bearing cam carriers. Are you using four bearing cams, and if so, how is the pump drive handled?
Sounds like a great motor.
Anyone have any stock S port flow numbers handy?

What problems do you envision? I thought it was just a matter of popping out the cam carrier end cover.Originally Posted by Scott Clarke

Kenik,
Which car is this going into?
Saw your early car out at Bernie's while dropping mine off. Very nice indeed.

So you are fixing your car, eh, Marc? Cool. This motor is for the '69S. After dropping a valve in it, I figured I'd better hurry my ass up and get a motor built that isn't going to potentially cost me my 'S' case on failure.

Yes, finally. Bernie and I are going to discuss my options motor-wise tomorrow night at dinner. Are you going to make it this month? If so, bring one of those heads!Originally Posted by kenikh
