    1965 Monte Carlo car 300055

    Here you go John,
Drivers seat: Linge special, low bucket, rear covered in grey carpet, appears to be (that's a guess) the speedster seat from the 356 Carrera. There was a note that after the earlier reconnaissance drive, Herbert and Peter wanted the fabric, Houndstooth, for more seat grip.

Navigator/Passenger seat: Falk has the stock seat with vinyl headrest and Houndstooth in the 1965 six center panel pleated seat.

Linge also used his custom leather steering Wheel.

Note: Jim Loucks photo of the interior is the 055 Tribute that was shown at 2011 RennSport, with steering wheel confirmed near to original by Mr Herbert Linge, down to his spare fuses on the wheel.

Thanks Bob! So that I'm clear, the red car shown is a Tribute or the real car that was used in the Monte?

    1965 911 #301111, Red Book Vol 1 "Cover Car," owned 53 years.
1967 911 #307347, bare-bones, some road wear, a little surface rust, and a few dents..., owned 13 years.
    1970 914/6GT, (Sold - ran the last three Rennsports)owned 30 years.

John, the red Tribute car showing the seats in the above photo and below is my 300 149, also a 1964 car - but a December produced car. The Monte car was build 26 October.

After 25 years of looking and asking as to the whereabouts and disposition of the first 911 used in International Competition car serial number 300 055 was not to be found, and the trail was cold.

In the spring of 2008 Herbert Linge placed a number of his collected items in the Automobilia Auktion Ladenburg. Included was the Steering Wheel he used in the 1965 Monte Carlo event.
That sparked the further research into and the need for details on that car.

The 2011 Rennsport Reunion was rumored to be a special exibition of the key racing 911's. Note the black Daytona class winner from 1966 car 300 128 made a surprise visit to RennSport thru the efforts of Kevin Jeannette a number of courageous enthusiasts and (It's appearance close to the opening of the event altered the order of the pit garages museum showings).

With the 2011 Rennsport as the deadline I developed the Tribute to 055. After it's participation in that event the Tribute got a ton of coverage in the Netherlands "RS" publication and both "Classic Porsche" and "Total 911" from England alerting that the REAL car had not been found. Shortly there after the REAL car found it's way back into the limelight from it's hiding in France. (Where its last racer owner had kept it for safe keeping for decades). It made it's way to a German, owner and collector, who enlisted Porsche Classic with the help of Herbert Linge and Peter Falk to complete a spectacular restoration. They were nice enough to allow me to participate in research and parts sourcing to bring Rolf's car back.

A number if small items on the Tribute were interpreted by happen stance and from black and white photos in the wrong colors - So photos that show the Real car can always be correctly identified,
rear pull bar and rear lid leather handles both were black on the Tribute rather than a painted red bar and brown leather on Rolf's car.

    Great info Bob! Thanks!

That Linge steering wheel is awesome. I hope it was reunited with his car. I’d love to have that as a piece of amazing history!

Different ttg lamps or optical illusion?

Ironic this is a sporto as I have a wonderful hand written personal note from Quick Vic back in the early 90s giving pointers on how to optimise a double declutch gearshift. Appreciate that a legendary driver would take the time to write this to help fine tune my 911 technique as I got to grips with the then new to me 73 Carrera RS:

Also quite amusing coincidence as Jenks wrote this comment about no necessity to do an Elford when writing about the the Carerra RS in his 1973 roadtest review when the M472 was brand new. He was referring to how it was not necessary to drop a gear and rev to make fast progress like he and Redman felt was required 2.4 and 2.2 litre versions to avoid being caught again by BMW 2002 etc having just passed them on Autobahns:

"The power and torque of this engine, and the wide rev-band, really do make this latest Porsche a shattering performer without the necessity of 'doing a Vic Elford'. DSJ"
