I believe all local Stuttgart Zuffenhausen factory plated cars have red numerals.

In 1987 I was visiting the factory and museum, my hotel was located on the shakedown route for new cars. I got some pictures that I'll scan, hope this helps...

Note the two 928's in front of the 911...

The 'red' plates are temporary ones. The ones starting with '04' are only valid for a few days and everybody can get them at the local licencing authority for a test drive or transport of a non registered car.
The red ones starting with '06' are the dealer type and assigned to dealers permanently to use them for the same reasons. They can swap them from car to car and just have to 'register' them in a little booklet.
So it is always good to have a car dealer (or manufacturer) as a friend here when you need to drive your car without registering it.
I guess the factory hadn't enough of their own '06' plates at this time, so they get additional '04' ones. They are not specific for an area like the white ones.

that is a serious challenge. i will try to post a few that I have. I mainly have competition cars - 911's, 356's and sports racers from 550/ RS60's thru to a 917. It is interesting that the factory seemed to have batches of sequential numbers - probably a lot more that i would recognize if the road cars and test cars were taken into account

for a start I have a challenge for Brian F or maybe Karim.
what is the identity of the white car Karim and raj have posted?

I think it may be RS 119.

The car in the photo is a M471 car; and RS 119 was a M471 white with blue car delivered to the sales dept.
It also had yellow rectangular iodine fog lights below the bumper and seems to be the only RS that fits all those criteria.

do you mean competition for 911
    S UV 333 Monte Carlo 65 Linge / Falk 5th
    or circuit for 911?
or any factory car, which would be a 356.
