    Rear Grille Finish

    i"m trying to determine what my rear grille originally looked like. the car is a 1971 S targa so the grille would have been chrome. currently the face of each horizontal bar is chrome but the top and bottom surface of each bar is painted black. (see pictures) I am aware that the verticals and the under screen should be black but am not sure about the whole bar (my guess is it should be all chrome)

    So, Is this the way they originally appeared or should each horizontal bar be all chrome?

    All "chrome"(its a surface process called anodizing, not chrome). Vertical bands black(satin/flat) Mesh under bands also black. I think there is a lot of info on this here already.

    Someone painted the grill black at one point and in trying to bring it back to original they just took the paint off the face?

    But yes, the bars should be all polished...

    True, the bars should be all "clear anodized"--"polished";

    Unless this is a very late '71 w/ '72MY parts but from the photos it seems to have been painted a RGrimm suggested. A true '72 is black anodized not painted.

    Good luck w/ the project.
