Thread: Another hot rod

Mounting plate for Twinmaster and Rally-Master

Virtually universal use of the Halda Twinmaster and Heuer Rally-Master prompted the Race Department to offer a simple part to provide customers a convenient way to combine the installation of a Halda Twin with a Rally-Master in the open glove box cavity of the 911.

The mounting plate devised by the Race Department places the relevant instrumentation smack dab in front of the Co-Driver, exactly where it is needed.

Having seen a couple of these factory style mounting plates over the years, I recall best the one gracing the dash of Milou's ST. The first image shows an example en Geneve, Suisse.

I have not found a factory part number. No doubt one exists.

The Halda/Heuer mounting plate for the Hot Rod came from a fellow board member, the owner of "Peaches." Thanks Cam.

I changed my direction and they have gone to a good home where I believe they will see action in a late 60's early 70's Escort Rally Car.

    Where we left off

The attentions of the trimmer come now to the fore but before he can line the cockpit it requires a quick scraping of the old carpet glue followed by a wipe down with the tack rag.

Here the hot rod sits at the ready, waiting for its headliner and carpet.

A big thanks to Ian for his post; welcome to the thread.

"interior lining out of black felt"

The NOS factory lightweight carpet pieces required some attention prior to installation. The pieces came from two different sources in the U.K. including fellow board member Gilbert911. Thanks Chris.

Having been stored folded in the original packaging for some years, the carpets required a steaming to remove the crease lines in order to ready them for installation.

Working methodically, the trimmer fits the carpets to the contours of the longitudinals and rear seat areas first and then works up to the inner rear quarters. The unstructured felt yields easily to the trimmer's hand and shears. It molds nicely to the steel, softening the otherwise stark expanse of a gutted cockpit.

Lightweight carpeting was fitted by the Race Department to rally and circuit prepped ST alike. Porsche Race Department literature describes this treatment as:

Is it just me or are your Cibie lenses off centered ?

    Lined with black felt

Here you can follow along with the trimmer as the lightweight carpet installation progresses.

He wanted the fit to convey a tight, molded look in order to reveal the lovely detail of the Porsche 911 monocoque construction.

The last image attached to this post shows the installation, complete with gummimatten.
