    Early 911 Celebrity

Surfin on a rainy day and came accross this photo in a Life Magazine archive. Looks like a very early 65 with that air filter. Wonder where the car is now. Astronaut R. Walter Cunningham repairing his car. circa 1967. Do you think he may have had a special plate ending in 911?

Manned space capsule/center = MSC. That plate number MSC-911 (on a '69 white Texas plate) was on Eade Hopkinson's slate grey '67S when he bought it, which was originally Walter Cunningham's special order 911.

MSC the forerunner of JSC. Amazing shot. I've worked for NASA for 20 years and owned Porsches on and off over the last 35. So it has very special significance for me.

    Thanks a bunch for posting....

Eade's Cunningham 67S is maybe my favorite early car of all.

That's pretty sweet info. Most of the early astronauts drove Corvettes. Good to know at least one of them ventured to the dark side.

Along with the Corvette, Porsche was the original astronaut car:

I believe Corvettes were given out through some type of 'executive lease program'.

Great pics. This just made my day. I have his 72S # 9112300023. It's weird how that works out. The first time I talked to Eade I told him I had Cunninghams 72S it was a weird because we both live in Cardiff down the street from eachother. Small world. When it's finished Eade and I will caravan 2 of Walter's cars to a show. I talked to Walter and had him sign a picture for me. He's a very cool guy. He had about 15 Porsches. He told me all the pictures of them went with the exwife though. -Scott
