    Cornpanzer mini-Tribute

SWB and (even) LWB Needing Direction Folks,

Here are two pics of my recently complete "RS" 380mm Extended Hub steering wheel a la Cornpanzer on the list. Dave provided the extended metal hub "adapter kit" that you use with a disassembled 380mm wheel. This will move the wheel a little closer to you, and more importantly I think, the smaller wheel away from the dash where your fingers may hit. Mine was painted with VHT semi-gloss black and covered by my "secret source" for thick grip cross-stitching on the wheel and baseball stitching on the short spoke pieces. Overall grip is almost 3 3/4". This weekend on my '67!

    Nice Work

I have a 380mm and I would like to do a similar task. Do you have a kit that you purchased for the leather? Please give more detail on the stitching and how did you learn to do it? What does VHT stand for? Was the extended hub kit fabricated or purchased? If fabricated, can you provide measurements on how deep the hub is?

VHT is a high quality rattle can paint. Cornpanzer supplied the hub, I don't know if he is still in this "biz." The leather was professionally done by my "secret source, who shall remain so.

    Olin-
The 380mm wheel has about 13mm less dish than a 400mm wheel. I made a spacer for my 380mm wheel from two 1/4" thick aluminum discs, so it has about the same relationship to the dash as a stock wheel. You could choose to use some other dimension, however. Allen's spacer seems to be thicker.

The "spacer" which is, more or less, a replica of the factory extended hub is the right thickness to allow the factory horn contact which is much longer than the standard one to work.

Definitely someone that is not in the biz. Wow, could you imagine the assortment of wheels you would see coming through if she was in the biz.

"Evening Honey. I just got a wheel in today that was from a 917, raced by Vic Elford in 1970. Who is Vic Elford and is there such a thing as a Porsche 917?" Of course making a huge exaggeration it is not already restored and that they were leather.

‘67 911S Canary/Lemon yellow, sunroof coupe produced w/100L tank. Until determined otherwise, 306943S appears to be 1 of 1, and among the earliest 911’s with a 100L tank. The 911’s initial participation in a competitive event, the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally, was fitted with a 100L tank (#300055). Seeking additional info on earliest 100L tank fitments to 911’s.
