Thumbs up Updated - Starting a 917 - First time in 30 years

UPDATED With Part II Of The Video

Here is something that you don't see every day (or ever). The guys at Gunnar Racing starting a newly-acquired 917. It is the first time this motor has turned over in 30 years. This may be the best sounding motor that you will ever hear!

    Wunnerfull...

I was in the Laguna Seca paddock in '98 when they were "fine tuning" George Follmers 917-10. Someday I may convert it to digitial and post. And then there's the Auto Union Type D being run in the paddock a couple years later.

But there will never be a sound on the ground like the Auto Union type C

Ps... My father lost his eyebrows one afternoon trying to start his 53 For Zephyr using ether starting spray. One of the fonder memories of my youth. What a nightmare that car was...

They had that 917 on display at the Sebring Historic Races last weekend.
However, didnt get the chassis number.
I'm sure Gunnar will put it up on their website soon.

Oh man...that video needs to be immortalized. Those fellas are musicians working on that bad boy. I'd put them at the same level as Pink Floyd. Put thru a fairly decent pc sound system it's great stuff. Thankyou for the post.

Took 'em a while to get it running on all 12 ... you could hear it come to life little by little.

There's nothing like the sound of a bevel-driven, horizontal fan. Thanks for sharing.

PS: One of the highlights of my trip to RRIII was getting the chance to chat with Kevin Jeannette and Preston Henn. Both VERY VERY nice guys ... regular Joes. Got my picture with 'em in front of the Swap Shop T-Bird, too.
