I couldn't comment on the correctness, but it sure looks cool. Agreed the price is up there too.

At the bottom is an Alpina CSL that also hits the spot. http://www.finecars.cc/en/detail/car...tml?no_cache=1

I think that one is above $400K.

Some comments on the car here.

This one is FS a little closer to home. Missing some of the vintage racing vibe but a well documented build and a lot cheaper.

    Alpina 1600

Engine in the 1600 looks OK but then there is not too much that Alpina did that shows on the outside. Scheel R seat is nice!

The intake manifolds are typically BMW ti intakes usually with Weber 40s or 45DCOEs instead of the side draft Solexes.

The exhaust manifold was typically the standard BMW cast unit but ported to match the head and using a special big bore down pipe. A 4-2-1 header was available but was not recommended for anything but a pure track car with open exhaust.

Alpina paid close attention to the head porting and combustion chamber and used 10.5 forged pistons in a custom design from Kolben Schmidt (KS). Cams were 300 (sport) or 324 (full race). Most of the engines were built for longevity as Bovensiepen believed in finishing races.

The multi butterfly injection set up was used on tii street motors with 300 degree cam and a special Kugelfischer pump. I am not aware of Alpina every racing a 2 litre with that injection set up.

The fenders are Alpina style blister flares that were homologated back in 68 or so. Alpina was an early proponent of BBS tri sectional renn felgen and did not start making the Alpina tri sectional wheels until some time later. The spec race tire were the Dunlops in the images of the 1600.

The car is a rebody so value here is quesionnable. The cars came with extensive build papers from Alpina as each was custom ordered from a very long list of factory available equipment.

My 74 Alpina 2002 was ordered on a new car. Alpina took delivery of the car at the BMW factory and then built it order for its first owner. It came with 165 hp, cr 5 speed, quick steering box, twin Scheels (rallye models like the pass in the 1600), flares, three piece wheels, CN 36s, four wheel vent discs, front spoiler, oil cooler, limited slip, big tank with quick fill in the trunk, etc. Has about 100 pages of factory docs: pre order form, order confirmation, pre delivery, final build sheets and invoices.

I also have a Schnitzer flared car that was built here in Providence RI with msot of the same equipment except with 8x13 minilites (from Hank Thorp Racing back in the day).

As already stated, this "Alpina" 1600 has a new shell so value as a historic car is questionable.
Re: carbs/intake/injection, I think Flunder meant to say no 1600's were run by Alpina with MFI.

The silver CSL is a multi-concours winning car built by Cary Iida and for sale from Canepa at over $400K.
Go take a look at the pics, it's truly impressive, perhaps the best there is. At the price it would be a tough decision to
drive it the way it should be, hard. Super rare 3-piece wheels, too. Don't remember the headlight washers though. Must've added them.

    http://www.canepa.com/inventory/coll...a_1/index.html

I first saw it at Laguna shortly after he completed it in '95. Spectacular.
My own CSL is a super clean, original ONS car that's seen plenty of track use; compared to this one it would be considered "patinated".

If Tedd Mumm still has his early carburetted yellow CSL, THAT'S another nice one... with patina.

Hi there, the wheels on this car are the Limmer wheels. (BBS didn't exist at this time)

    Cheers Uli
(And Alpina made 1600's Kugelfischer Engines - 190hp with slide throttle)

Would want to know it's history... it was built 34 after mine and unless the front valance was replaced this should be very different everywhere else. And if it was a strad-paket car (like, it has AC?!?) there have been substantial changes: Wrong bumper, wrong rear spoiler (repop lid section of 3-piece wing, never offered on these) rear panel is chromed steel US spec without foglight, no mention if
the doors and trunklid are alloy but toolkit not correct for alloy boot lid anyway (too heavy, was supplied with tool roll), later seatbelts (should be fixed 3-point Klippans), wood way too shiny, wrong headliner, wrong visors (both are specific to CSL grained black vinyl), Scheels though apparently nicely reupholstered lack headrests... with all that we can assume the carpets aren't Perlon. Too many underhood hardware items sprayed black that should be cad plate, wrong attachment hardware for spoilers.

And they didn't show us the underside. Sure, it's attractive enough (after $40K) and maybe prices are finally heading north, but considering just what the photos show us it's likely to have seen rust repair. Often done poorly so without seeing proof it was done
right, the asking price is top of market and then some. Unlikely the engine is original, but if it is that would help. I'd LIKE to see these
    at higher prices!

Here's what the rear of a CSL should look like:

Saw it at Laguna as well that year. Unbelievable! Perfect in every way.
