Factory or aftermarket engine lid lock?

First post from a 993 owner beginning the process of hunting for a 69-73 911...

I literally stumbled on this 73 T the other day sitting at the back of an old gas station and almost contemplated asking about its status. Unfortunately, the car looks like its been sitting out for many years and every metal part of the exterior & interior has a lot of surface rust - at the very least.

Anyway, I noticed this lock on the engine lid I've never seen before...is it factory or does anyone know what it's for?

It's got to be for an '80's alarm system...what a horrid placement!
