Red face Is it a COA.......

About a half a year after I bought my ’73 in 1989 I figured it was about time to send away for something to ‘officially’ tell me if what I bought was in fact what I had. So, not knowing who to contact, I first tried Porsche Cars North America. About a month later I got this first letter in the mail

About a year later I tried the same thing (and also inquired about where to find a ‘real’ ’72 Weltmeister sticker) at Porsche KG and received this second letter….

    I have 2 questions:
1 – Did they have the COA’s like you‘all have back in ’89….
2 – Has anyone ever seen a letter like either one of these before……

    Cheers,

    Chuck,

Here's a link to Gunnar Racing's website which shows a similar CoA reply letter from Olaf Lang; in this case for RS #17.

Back in '89 and '90 I believe they were still issuing the Kardex.

I'm not exactly sure what you asked them for, but the letters you recieved are not uncommon. I believe you had to actually request the "Kardex" by name and through the exact channels. My memory seems to think that the POC offered this service which has since morphed from a Kardex request into a COA request.

Still bitchen to have those letters, though. They're probably more accurate than the current batch of COAs.

    Chuck,
I got the same letter you did on my 77 3.0 Carrera in 1984. Personally signed by Olf Lang. He also answered a head stud question that I had asked. Those days are gone.Back in the 70's when I wrote them, I got a personal letter back every time on PORSCHE letterhead.

Good stuff Chuck. So what is it, do you have leather sport seats of vinyl? That seems to be the only difference.

Edit: Re-reading the letters I guess they both could be correct, just saying different things about the interior. One saying leather seats the other vinyl interior.

Agreed Rick, those days are sure gone.

I bought my car in March of '82. In 1992 I finally got around to ordering a "Certificate" here's mine. It appears they were employing a more formatted reply by then.

Someone swapped out my hounds tooth seats with 1970 model basketweave.
