Thanks Tom, try and get some casting dates also if you can. Count the dots around the year for the month; each half may be different.

Just seen on eBay: 901/02 962163 9178, very beaten up (& big hole) when rod let loose.

Thanks Richard, you have been very busy.
Build 3469 advances the in-sync series by 50, and the gap to just 45.
All the pairing numbers are very useful as are the casting dates.
Do you have any VIN's to go with these engines?

    900348 kd

We got a response from a leading authority on early 911, Marco Marinello, elevenparts.com on the first 901 engine we have seen KD used on:

(I hope Marco doesn't mind my posting this)

"this is not a replacement engine, since it still has the matching internal nr. 248
this engine was rebuilt by the factory or a designated work shop
the KD - KundenDienst was stamped after the rebuild
    <edit>
    regards
    Marco"

The stamped "KD" appears on 356 engines that were factory rebuilt and it is reported they went to the replacement engine supply line or even may have returned to the production line.

    "KundenDienst" translates to "Customer service".

If this engine is rebuilt some day it would be good to do a little measuring and diagnosis to see if this also included a little "special wishes" with that customer service.

Just a way cool item on a 1964 engine.

Thanks for these updates. I'll get the list updated in a day or so when I have my current list in front of me. The pictures are helpful also, so please keep them coming. Anyone know how to save photos from a Flash slideshow, other than a screen capture?

Thanks Richard. Four more added to the list. Note how the casting dates are a little reversed in the 35xx to 37xx range. They must have had a lot of cases on hand; last in & first out it seems. These late 901/01 engines are really helping narrow down some things, so keep them coming.
