Thanks all. Glenn's build 12050 puts the change from Al to Mg to between 12061 and 12155; we are getting close. With 50 type 901/14 built in the range 144 engines there were obviously at least two engines in current production at the time, and possibly all 9 types involved in the change.

Thanks to Grady Clay and others, there are about 10 more in the list since my last post.

Bob Fleming provided this image on the Pelican thread, and it clearly shows that the factory calls these internal numbers:

Okay, today Jim supplied a fact that helped me out a lot. With engine # 908185 being the end of type 901/05 907001 series it enabled me to calculate the changeover in the build numbers. I knew it was the last possible serial # from the build data, but had no proof it was. I'm betting that the type 901/20 engines are the ones making small gaps in the 901/05 build data from 3879. If I was to take a wild guess that 907001 was 3839, then with 908185 at 5053 it makes a gap of 30 unknown engines (well okay, we know one was a type 901/20) in all the type 901/05.

This just came in from an eBay vendor: 901/01 903812 3724
This build is a big jump from 3156 which was still in sync with the serial #'s. However it is only out by 12, and we have 901/20 906106 3629 before it. This leads me to propose that the 901/20 engines may have started at 906101 and that at least a dozen were built.

I removed 901/02 960151 3584 from the list since this no longer fits the pattern and I must consider the build # suspect. I'll have to check my source to verify the correct #'s. You can really assist me in the research if you can send me build #'s for late 901/01 engines (903000 to 9039xx), and any early 901/02 engines (96xxxx).
