Sorry about the confusion. The engine serial # is about 800 higher than the casting dates would suggest; this build 3256 but would expect 2148 to 2486 for 65/06 and earlier for 65/03. I really need a lot more casting dates to understand them better. I see what is sometimes a reverse trend in pairing #'s and casting dates sometimes. When the halves are cast I suspect there will be batches, not a continuous succession of dates. Then a case pair is machined as a set and the casting dates tend to get jumbled. Finally, a case gets assembled and the casting dates are further jumbled. Especially if there is any last-in first-out activity which I would expect to be the norm at least in bin quantities.

Thanks Bill. Here is a very odd motor case:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...-/110991989988
type 901/03 build 10718 casting dates 7/67 should have had a serial near 2080338 but currently is numbered AT6110508
So did the factory rebuild an old 2.0 into a 2.2, shave the old serial off and stamp a new serial in?
Who did stamp engines with the AT? Was the factory the only place or did VW Canada remanufacturing do it?

Hi Dave,
I have a February 1968 SWB with this numbers:
Engine number: 3280953. Type: 901/14. Serial: 13506. 130CV DIN (Year: 1968)
Gearbox: 3281260. Manual 5 Gears. (Year: 1968).
All this must be in a Porsche 911 2.0 or L (Porsche Data Basis), but VIN of my car is 11820569 (Porsche 911T 1968)
Official certificate I have says my VIN number is a T with engine number 2180100 110 CV DIN and gearbox 4180196 (Sportomatic).
?????
Do you need photos?
Cheers

Thanks, I imagine that someone found it easier to replace the sporto combo with a manual combo. Keeping a sporto going can be a challenge that some mechanics will not accept.

on top of the block are 74 & 74, are these the pair #'s?
It's an "S" motor (longblock) rebuilt by SuperTec.
Thoughts?
My other engine is 901/14 3280633 VIN#11835038...can't see the build #...not sure if al or mag

Very good, thanks. 3280633 would be a mag case, the second of its engine type; I really need to know that build #, it will be close to 12100. It should be readily visible. Yes, the 74 is the pairing #, and they match. What is the paint code on the badge of the car please? That car is a very early Karmann bodied normal US coupe. I believe the engine would be original.
