I wonder how often these engine cases actually sell, and for what price. This has to be an expensive way to build an engine if every part has to be acquired separately.

I'm a neophyte relative to Jim and Frank... But these appear overly odd...

Couldn’t it be that this is a real 901/01 case, but someone grinded the seq. and engine number off, to re-stamp it?

There seem to be other numbers under “7016”

Yes, that was my thought as well. Hence the desire to see the casting dates. I believe the build and serial # were faked. Could you keep track of the sellers of these engine cases and see if there is a pattern to the suspicious cases?

Not sure if I could keep track, the last engines were from an auction website in which the seller seems to be anonymous.

My theory on 960960 is way back when no one cared the original case got blowed up and someone replaced and restamped a less valuable (and available) 901/01 case; that’s how they knew what prod number to stamp.

Maybe the car was eventually destroyed or owner didn’t want this hot potato?

(Wouldn’t we love to know the original 901/01 number!)
