Hello guys. I see this thread is old. But I can't resist asking for help from any one who might have some information about my car, chassis numbr 310001S. so far all i know it ws used by Porsche test department, so I think it half deserves to be on this page. I have had allot of useful help from many members on the forum so far. And they have all pointed out many unique and pre production type parts on 310001
see my thread about the car so far

    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...n-South-Africa

I have emailed Porsche Archive department Jens and Dieter and the answer i recieved was
Unfortunately I have to inform you that we do not have anything to research for the story of your 911. It is a pity but we have in the archive no files of the developing of the 911, only the files around the 901 we have, but no later ones. Why ever... so we can not find any information about your car. Sorry.
So as dissapointing news as this is, i am confident someone somewhere should have some info about my car which my little sister has named "Betty Silver".
    Thank you kindly in advance

there's a ton of cool details on the car
it's the same car that's featured on the 914 brochure (next to a 917)
I helped to "concours prep" it in 2004 (we cleaned it with a broom and a firehose, inside and out)
I wish to know if this one is still out there in the desert rotting away in the guy's front yard .... haven't seen any threads on it lately on 914 World, so wonder if this proto has survived.

Had a pretty goofy story to its entry into America ~~~

Porsche Typ 965. 911 Prototyp with V8 engine.
(3.6l by Audi, it was planned to be equipped later with an engine made by Porsche.)

Another pic of the silver 914/8 with 8 cyl of the 908. Must be Ferry's car. To the right and below two 959 Proto/"Versuch".

This however IS a factory prototyp (owned by the Porsche Museum), and an interesting one.

It looks like that - beside the well known 1969/70 Pininfarina as well as the Tangerine "stretched" 1970 2.2S exhibitioned in the Porsche museum - the factory experimented with another 4 seater version, this time w no fastback.
Its design concept is very close to the then 10-year old 1960/61 4 seater concept "T7", which was later dropped in favor of a 2+2 seater known as the 901/911 or "T8".

    1969/70 4-seater

    Karim,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that this car was in no way a factory exercise. From what I read, it was done under the auspices of a university's engineering department as an academic exercise -- IMHO a rather failed one at that.

I really don't know why Classic Driver picked up the story since it's like any other chopped up and customized 911. I guess they are just starting the shilling for the eventual auction of this car?

Anyway, I don't think this should be considered a "Significant Porsche Prototype Production Car".
