    The Perfect Driveway (really)

    I want a driveway like this one. But with less trees in the run-off area:

    Hey Doc, where is that? I know of a guy near High Point, NC that has a track at his house. But I've never seen it. Wonder if this is it?

    It's actually a pretty good idea. One would be hard-pressed to get a permit to construct a race track on their property due to zoning ordinances, etc. But who says you can't have a meandering driveway And who says you can't drive whatever you want, as fast as you want, on your private driveway.

    Tom - I think I read that this was in the Carolinas somewhere.

    Found it

    Go to google maps and type in:
    2666 W Lake Hamilton Dr, Winter Haven, Polk, Florida 33881
    Look at street view and you can see horses. Maybe the owner uses the track as a trainer for the horses. I bet they would get spooked with those mad Porsches roaming on their territory.

    A vintage racer that I know from FL sent it to me. It is part of a driveway. You see the section that connects to West Lake Hamilton RD and then the rest of the driveway that heads to his house (or barn, or whatever). He really just doubled the paved area since he really needed the long driveway. Maybe he is in the paving business?

    I'd volunteer to take down a few trees if he would let me use the "driveway" for practice. But think hitting a tree could be hazardous to your health.

    There are a lot of horse properties in northern and central FL. I think a lot of horses must be shipped to this area for winter training.

    However, I have never seen a paved horse training area. It seems to me that it would be tough on the horse's legs? Nonetheless, I think that owning horses would be a lot more expensive that owning cars.

    BTW, Winter Haven, FL is on the highway (Hwy 27) that we take to go to Sebring. It is mostly known as a citrus growing area.

    Great driveway! BTW, love your collection of cars in your signature. You have a favorite of mine: 1995 Cobra R! Had a couple of opportunities to run one at Willow Springs and it was really a fun car. I'd love to have one as a daily driver!

    Thanks Jeff. I have a bad problem with owning old race cars. It isn't a good daily driver. It has no radio or A/C so you simply can't drive it during the heat of a Georgia summer. The rear of the hood allows heat to escape the engine compartment which is exactly where the air enters the vents to the interior (so on a 90 degree day; it's 110 in the car ). The cars were delivered from the factory with a 20 gallon fuel cell, a Jack Roush 5.8L engine, a lot of negative camber, a big radiator, an oil cooler, a power steering cooler, and stiff springs with Koni's.

    Ford made 250 of the cars to homologate them for racing where they won two IMSA Speedvision championships. After this series lost its sponsor, they later raced in Grand Am Cup. Mine has no professional racing history.
