Thread: What is a "DENZEL"?

    What is a "DENZEL"?

From my Internet search it seems Austrian garage owner and amateur racing driver Wolfgang Denzel was a one of the 4 or 5 coachbuilders (Buetler, Glocker, etc...) that used VW and Porsche parts to build lighter cars in the 50s.

But my question is: what parts did he used on his car – VW's or Porsche's?

    Thanks in advance!

    Denzel

Like their contemporary Porsche, Denzel used modified VW components . . .

    Thanks!

That's probably obvious, as they all did that...
And thanks for the link, but that info probably isn't totally correct, by the way.
As you can see from this picture, Denzel built Coupés as well, or is it just a hard-top on a Cabrio body? It's dated 1959...

Denzel later became BMW importer for Austria and financed the development of the little BMW series when the car manufacturer was close to bankruptcy in the early 60ies. Today Denzel is Ferrari importer, a major BMW dealer and importer of several other brands into Austria and several central european countries.

The Denzel cars were all cabrios and your picture shows a rare hard top.

    Denzelism

Here's a link to an air-cooled outfit that could answer some of your Denzel questions:

    http://www.classicvws.com/index1.htm

They have contact with all kinds of VW-based stuff (Type 141s, Type 3 Ghias, Dannenhauer & Stauss, Hebmullers, yikes!)

Go to the 'VW NetGuide' and check-out the links. (If you think Porsche people are obsessive, wait 'till you see how many 'other' air-cooled fans are out there.)

    Hope this helps.

I had to double take on this thread - I thought it said "What's a Drexel", which is a quote from one of my favorite movies. Just curious if we have another True Romance fan among us (Tarantino penned the movie).
