Here's a couple of shots of the man... First, as you will find him in today's world... and then, his press credentials from the Spanish GP, 1973. Cool

This thread just keeps getting more entertaining. Liane Engeman was active just as I was becoming aware of the international racing scene and I have to admit that while the face was familiar I had never heard of her until Mark's caption above. After reading about her exploits, I did a quick Google-search to learn more and found this enchanting Swinging Sixties 1969 Dunlop mod/art featurette starring Ms. Engeman on YouTube. It even has Early 911 content (along with Cooper S, Fulvia, and Deuce-and-a-Quarter):

Very nice article by Mark Morrissey in the April 2011 Excellence. Thanks for sharing more detailed information and photos of your friend Coop, Mark. I was in Germany from August 1966 to August 1969. I was at many of the races that Coop attended, but never met him. There was also someone else who wrote a column in Stars and Stripes about upcoming races during this period but, I can't remember his name. I , too, was at Hockenheim in April 1968 when Jim Clark died in a tragic race accident. I also have many slides during that period that I have shared elsewhere on this forum. I do not have nearly as many of the pit area and paddock as he has. Once again thanks for sharing and bringing back so many memories of attending races in Europe.

    Thumbs up

Great thread!! It brings back lots of early racing memories, images, and personalities. I don't know how I have missed reading this one for the past two years.

Mark...I really enjoyed the Excellence article...way to go. You need to have a regular feature article.

Coop's own caption: As fast as she is fair: Liane Engemann is a touring car racing driver well know on european circuits as a woman driver to be respected.

Nine17 David, thanks again. Very cool vids on Liane. I did a little digging too. It seems she's on Facebook. I'm SO tempted to contact her.

runsub5 David, you're very welcome... it's really appreciated... knowing you've enjoyed Coops photos and profile makes it even better. Thanks very much. I for one would love to see the photos and if possible the slides you shot.

Lee, you're the best. Thanks so much. I've got several ideas cooking and not a lot of time right now with a new job and all, but I'm still forging ahead.

Mrgreenjeans... Man, I'm stunned. That's such an incredible response -- I'm grateful for your sincerity and candor. If I sat and thought about it all day, I couldn't imagine a better reaction from a reader. So pleased you enjoyed the story and photos... Thank you very much for the really kind words.
