Color of Primer on Early 911s?

I was just looking at this 1966 911 on BAT that is supposed to be black, but it is showing what appears to be Sand Beige under deep scratches and worn paint (like underneath and at the rear motor mounts, etc).

I searched on this site and it seems either there was no primer, or it certainly wasn't Sand Beige.

Of course it has my pet peeve of the seat bottoms not having the correct pleat.

the primer on my 911 car was a medium red brown...near sepia, but lighter in shade, i think.

    Later replacement panels are a dull olive-drab sorta color --- lighter = older . . .

But this sure looks like a Sand Beige under the black to me:

That might be the color of the undercoating that you are seeing.

My '70 car was silver and the original primer that I've encountered on the roof and hood plus some other seemingly random places is grey. Red Oxide was shot down the sides before the whole car was painted black. Of course the black wasn't factory done but, it was done prior to '75.

i think you are right with undercoating...it was like a yellow grey-brown plastic material that made up the thick texture.
