    Raj,

Thats very interesting as my 73S certainly had a black tash top not removing the dash on the RS to check however except to say where the dash wraps around at the sides is black also but in the pic of your ST colour would be visible I believe.

No cutting just careful peeling back where the glue was a bit loose anyway.

Very similar to the RS Raj, more black on the centre tunnel than Frank currently has as same on sides.

Yes not sure Raj but I wondered why there is so much paint under the handbrake area which is totally covered by the handbrake, carpet and the handbrake rubber boot

Hi Raj, those oil lines appear to rubber hose, not the brass lines we normally see, is this true?

    Frank,

In the course of figuring out what to do with my 72S, I looked carefully at an original late model RS (1400's) and took the following pictures:

Since the your car is a first series car it may have the same characteristics as Clyde's car with respect to the mats.

My theory on this: Weren't the early cars first built as Lightweights (i.e. no sound deadening etc.), then weighed and homologated, and then converted to Touring spec? If so, the car could have been built without mats, sprayed body color, and then after homologation the mats would have been put in on top of the body color.

    Hope this helps.

    Best, Guru

    Reviving an old thread.
My RSR replica is being painted as we speak, and I'm still wondering what to do with the footwell/area under the dash?
Unfortunately Raj' pictures and posts are removed so I'm wondering what the Martini RSR would have had. Full black dash top to bottom, or only the actual dash?

Reading through this topic, it sounds as if the RS sport & RSRs had black all the way to the floor with a bit of overspray, all to prevent the original color coming through where the mats meets.
However, I've seen photos of R7 (the sister Martini car) taken in the 80s or 90s where the full footwell seems white. And it's all that dirty and damaged that I'm convinced it is original.
The museum car is of no use as a reference, as that was a 1972 car originally so different in quite a few respects (black engine bay & frunk for one).
Then I've also seen pictures of the Brumos restoration (RSR 0328), where they kept everything except the actual dash white.
