I have a friend who now mostly lives in Atlanta but was formerly from Elmira, NY. He attended most of the races at WG from 1969-1974 (then he drove a VW bus to live in Aspen, CO ).

He certainly enjoyed this video as he watched the race for the first time while sober. He now rotates between Atlanta in the winter to Keuka Lake (the finger lake just west of Seneca Lake) in the summer.

Ralph was my first Porsche mechanic,worked on my 66 912. He had a shop in Framingham Mass. Very nice guy. I remember he told me I really should try to get my hands on a 911. I did and he was right.

I can tell you first hand, what a nice guy he is. He built my 2.8 Twin Plug engine. When I had unrelated problems with my car he drove down from Seattle to work on it, and solved some problems, another mechanic created. He's an old school mechanic that makes house calls!!
Thanks Ralph. Just want to let any west coast guys that he is alive and well, still wrenching. Mainly racing, but picked up some 356 engine parts while he was here. If you need a reliable engine builder.

Man, did that video ever take me back! In 1968 and 1969 a friend and I drove up to the Glen to see the Six-Hours on Saturday and the Can-Am on Sunday. In '68 we stayed at a farmhouse outside Corning, and the other guest was a race driver from Boston with a green 911 on an open trailer: Ralph Meaney. Heck of a nice guy.

Of course there's J. Stewart in the "sucker" Chaparral, and at about 9:30 in the video you see two white Chevy pickups with camper shells; these were the Chaparral tow vehicles (open trailers, too). The #77 yellow 911 is probably Bert Everett, from Doylestown, Pennsylvania; he'd formerly raced a Speedster and was a very good driver. Or was it George Frey?

What's the story with 914/6 being a GT with no flares? Never seen that before.
