Looks like the same one that was on the Chasing Classic Cars episode. I thought Wayne overpaid for it then thinking that it was an earlier car but it had the indents on the deck latch cross piece and some other signs of not being so special. Maybe someone else saw that episode but as I recall he paid $55K for it had another $7K put into it to bring it East and got no action at an auction.
    Currently:
    67 3.6 Rocket "Silver"
62 T6 Outlaw Coupe "ole Yellow"
65 F100 Custom Cab Flairside Shortbed

Gone but not forgotten in last 2 years:
    67S Concours King
    67 912 Vintage Racer
    68 912 Flipper
    83 911SC
    93 Mo30 968

    too many cars before that

I saw that one, and that's the car. He did overpay. I remember that when he was looking at the car and pointed out the date stamp on the wheels, and it showed 4/65, and he declared that was a sign he was looking at the real deal. There were several other things that were wrong with the car. Maybe I could put date stamped 65 wheels on my 66, and declare it was a 65. He is definatly a experianced car guy, but early 911's aren't his strong point.

I agree that that price is high. Don't the indentations on the deck latch cross piece mean that this is a calendar year 65 rather than 64 car? If it has the other early features it still could be a very interesting car. If it was a 64 CY car it would be worth easily 2X the 55K price.

    What else was wrong?

I recall that episode too. It also appeared to have a later large Durrant instead of the early small. Not to say it was a bad car but likely over paid as he seems to do often in the show. He seems to get a lot of cars from well know sources in So. Cal. and I do not think they sell cheap. Plus he always has shipping to CT which has to be 2 grand plus these days.

The data I have suggests the wheels are appropriately dated.

Dave, I wasn't saying the car wasn't a 65 model, only that the date stamps on the wheels don't seal the deal. I have a virgin 66 car that has 2/65 wheels on it. Yet the car was built in feb of 66.

Quite correct. Actually it would be unusual for this car to have rims dated the same month when the car was completed so early in the month. Those rims were either hot off the press or not original.
