Thread: Uncovered! Short-lived third model: The 1967 911 deLuxe"

I agree with you about the different documents Allen, I have almost a ton of books, including the original bulletin refering to the change of engine and carbs but, we know that in those years Porsche sometimes used what spares had at hand until they were finished. In the other hand, in those documents Porsche says they are starting to mount Weber but they are no refusing the possibility to continue putting Solex until the end of existences. It was the same with 356 models in previous years. It's impossible to contemplate that possibility nowadays in our computerised time but it ocurred in the past.
Untill now I'm aware I have not arguments enough to probe it but, for me, looking at the facts and after my conversation with Porsche people, I'm convinced Solex were mounted in origin in my car.
I'm pleased with the information I have from you and this forum but don't like to continue bothering you with this subject.
If I have any new information in the future I will let you know.

What some may forget is that the Solex carburetors were problematic on the 911. They did not hold tune well and had flat spots, among other problems. This is why they were phased out. The 911S, of course had Webers from the beginning. Why over a year ,after they were phased out, Porsche would install Solex carburetors on a 901/05 engine is hard to fathom, for me at least.

I THOUGHT, in fact, there was a Campaign, a factory program to replace Solex carburtors in the field but have not been able to find supporiting documentation, a service bulletin, for example, that covers an official program That being siad, we know many, many many sets of Solex were replaced with Webers on early 911s.

    Solex to Webers Conversion

At the request of Allen Henderson, I did some research into whether or not the factory had a program to replace Solex carburetors with Weber carburetors on early 911's. I found the attached Porsche Cars Distributors, Inc., Parts Department Bulletin #8, dated 8/68 regarding the Solex to Weber conversion, which suggests that there was a program to replace Solex carburetors with Weber carburetors on early 911's. Will be looking for additional supporting material.

I would expect the engine to be 9076xx; could there be a typo? What is the build #?

The factory sheet I have shows the Solex carbs through 907 000 and Webers beginning 907001. Then again, it shows 1966 chassis through 305 100 which is wrong. No cars were built 304 956 through 305 100.

After getting the car home and a better look, I have corrected my motor nr.. It is 907622. Build nr. is 4487. I thought it was a USA model from the MPH speedo but the oil gauges are Euro so I think it is a Euro car originally.

Got my Kardex, not a 67 Deluxe but it was repainted in 68 and probably got updated rear script then. Thats good news for me as I prefer the angled rear script.
