I very much agree with your weight statement, however I do have a factory wood wheel that the metal is aluminum and it is light as a feather.

What is the part # on the first wheel shown? It looks like a 914-4 wheel. Thanks.

One will be really surprised how much these wheels weigh a ton-frankly i don't understand why the factory used them with weight reduction in mind on their race cars.

There must be a reason for that; maybe steering wheel was intentionally made heavy to reduce vibrations from lightly laden front end?

Has anybody noticed any difference with lighter aftermarket wheel?

Is it possible that weight of the ST steering wheel was to combat the forces coming off the wide front wheels? Up until the ST the 911s had (relatively) narrow front wheels. With the ST they went to 9" wide tyres in the front. Perhaps a light steering wheel was deemed inadequate to deal with the forces coming off such wide wheels.

Here`s my recent aquisition, a 380mm 805 beautifully restored and double wrapped by Dr 911E. After driving with a large diameter wooden wheel for years, I cannot believe the transformation that a reduction in diameter of only 40 to 45mm can make to the driving experience. Rather than feeling like a GT, my car now feels like a proper sports car. I highly recommend it. Regards Mike. (apologies for MASSIVE image)

I've got a Momo - 1/78 production. Supposedly off Clint Eastwoods Ferrari, but without any documentation, so I chalk that up to Kitsch value.

Willing to sell or rather trade for a different wheel for my 73 T.

I just returned from a spirited coastal drive after swapping out my 350 mm Ronnie Peterson wheel for the beautiful "large diameter" S wheel I got from Rick "66S" and I have to say - after getting over the shock of the difference in size - the larger diameter wheel feels sooooo right.
Something about the thinner, harder feel, the wider stance - I don't know...the farther I went the better it felt, the wider the grin - it communicates with the road so well.
The 380mm Momo Elite I have is also pretty sweet - but right now the boat wheel stays.

Now I will have to try out some 4 1/2 wheels....

Hello to All, do you know that rare 370 mm diameter size, unusual Momo Prototipo? It differs from the "regular" prototipos in every detail, except for the genuine Momo-way of stitching of the leather. It's just the perfect size for both to handle and to see speedo and other dash instruments freely. I acquired it a year or so ago on a swap meet in Germany. It's from early 70s (I think '72 is stamped in it), absolutely flawless and installed now in my '72 S Coupe. I love it and saw no other such up till now anywhere. Please tell if you know anything of that kind of Prototipo. Thanks,

...excuse me, mixed up pics. It's the previous one, a common "new" prototipo. I speak about the below wheel. Although it's with silver spokes not like all of the others but I like it.
