Thread: Catalog of factory and aftermarket steering wheels

  1. #111
Thanks guys- the wheel is not at hand right at the moment but I get it.
When I slipped the wheel over the splines in the dark and cold garage I just thought about getting it further away from the dash not exactly how. I'll be speaking to Classic to get the right spacer.

    Again thanks...

Yeah Raj, it is. And for all the right reasons; it's a purposeful racecar.

You know, we haven't met, but I do look forward to seeing you on one of these NorEast romps.

    Cheers.

    Hm.

Both of Raj's 'Donohues' look completely different from the other NOS 'Donohue' on this thread . . . . see post #29.

the RAID steering wheel is SOOOOOOOOO rare! and yours is in fantastic form!

Perhaps you don't know the history of Volanti (that means steering wheel in italian)Raid.

The Owner , mr William Saladini , was a very talented italian driver, who died unfortunately at the age of 31 , during the 1973 Nevgŕl Alps race due to an aquaplaning accident.

This is the last photo of Saladini's bmw 2002 before crash (bressanone race, 1973)

Will a Raid hub that is designed to fit a 911 work for other steering wheels or only a Raid brand of wheel?

Also, what is the best size for a 73 911S? 380mm? I realize there will be different opinions, but I would like some input. My stock wheel is 400mm I believe and it seems very large.

A Raid hub has the same hole pattern as a Nardi and Personal does but Raids and RaceMarks use a larger diameter bolt. Raid and Racemark use an M6 and everything else is an M5 (from memory).

For me a 360-370mm wheel is about perfect; not too much effort to turn, the gauges are mostly visible, and my knees don't hit the wheel when I move my feet to brake or shift. I also prefer the larger diameter grip offered on most aftermarket steering wheels over the skinny Porsche wheel.
