Carpets... The Velour that is available is close but no cigar!

There was recently a discussion about the original Velour carpets that was standard in all of the 911S and 911Es and most of the US 911Ts(although as an option)..

I have a NOS Velour roll that is about 25 years old and it is different then what has been around for many years.(see photo 1). The corner that was covered of the used original carpet is exactly like the roll that I have.

The velour carpets available for the past 10-15+ years is close in color but not dead on! The new German Velour carpet is darker (more black) then the original (see photo 1/2).. As Tony from Autobahn described it in a the other thread "Salt and pepper...black with grey threads" the original is more evenly mixed black/grey.

The new German velour is also white on the back while the original was black(see photo 4). The new carpet is also just a tiny bit shorter (1/16) in the length of the pile. The new carpet is not as heavily bound . It is very high quality german carpet but not as high quality as the 1960s-70s carpet.

The sound deadening is glued and bound only on the floor carpets. The sound deadening is like a highly compressed horse hair with round spots (see photo 3). This sound deadening material is not available but can be pulled off the original carpets and reinstalled on the new carpets and still look original!

These are my observations any more input is appreciated..

Your observations are all correct. If you have enough yards to sell to do a set I would like to be in line.

The carpet is probably not for sale.
