    Value 1967 911S Targa?

    Hi there
I consider buying a midyear 67 911S Targa, but what is the value on these cars now days?
It is originally a soft window car but has now glass. The car has had a full restauration by an entusiast, with 4 new fenders, rockers, etc after rust. There has been used original Porsche parts. The car is in good condition, but not mint. It has the newer bumper trim and 68S/L rocker trim. Other parts as dashboard etc is original and in good condition. Car is Bluteorange(original) and got new paint all over (and under) and has black interior with standard seats. Rear brakes are non vented but fronts are the original vented. Engine is a correct 67 911S engine in very original good condition, but not matching numbers. Trans are the original item. It has 5 good (but not mint) original 4,5x15 Fuchs (spare even has the original Michelin 165x15H XAS tire from 1967!) Wheels still have the original finnish. Steering wheel is the 420mm leather wheel)
Overall good and solid car with some incorrect parts, some small inperfections in paint, antenna hole in targa trim, very good mecanical condition and looks great.

The seller looks for ca $35 000 but is it worth the money as it do not have the soft window, incorrect bumper trim etc? Any comments on this matter would be very preciated!

Car has other wheels etc on pictures.

The value in these cars is that in the final product you would have originality. The engine being a real 67S engine certainly helps. You say that the interior is black, is it the original type of carpet? I see seats that don't look very original at all.

I think you need to add up what it would cost to get this into as close as original condition as possible, and see if that cost added to the $35K is an ok number to you, and is that number less than what you would pay for another original car.

So start adding up the costs of: correct rear window and cost of putting back to original, correct deco, correct seats, correct balance of the interior, changing the brakes back to original type, moving the brake reservoir back to it's original place, repainting the luggage compartment, undercoating the car, etc, etc.

Feel free to contact directly for any questions,

    regards,

    Softies are the Next Speedster

I agree with Eric. The SWB softies are just starting to emerge as a collectible. And, as with most collectibles, value is determined by originality. These cars will be in the same class as Speedsters and 356 Roadsters, and value in those cars is all about originality.

It can get extreme. I restored a '60 Super 90 Roadster over an eight year period using only NOS and original restored parts - no reproduction parts whatsoever. I was offered an inordinate sum of money for the car and (to my ever-lasting regret) sold it.

    Collectibility = Originality

We get away with a lot with our hot rods - and I love 'em - but they will not be worth the real money in years to come. Of course this is just a discussion about market valuation... They're all great to drive!

    Cheers,

Thanks for your comments on this issue. Yes, orginallity is a major factor I guess. But here in Norway the market is so small, and there are only a handful softies that I know of. Parts are very hard to find.

At least 90% of the cars here come from US and your dry and warm climate and this is the by far best place to find parts.

I guess a good softie, especially a 911S will reach 356 price level in the future, so It would be an investment (let`s see if my wife agrees about that statement...)
