    Show me rally car details...please

As I'm finished with the '66 (less a set of Mr. Tilton's side stripes), I need a new project. A recent spirited trip over 20-some miles of gravel roads in the '66 made me want to do it again, but not in that car. Here's a trip report on that: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=481218

I've got a line on a '66 912 "parts car" that might make a good platform for a rally car project. I'm not looking to build some rally car rat rod, but a tribute to 60's 911 rally cars that will be driven on less than ideal roads.

I'm looking for anything and everything: all types of reinforcements, skid plates, lighting, interior shots, trunk shots, bumpers, mud flaps, factory, privateer...whatever. I'd also be interested in suspension set-ups, tranny gearing, and engine mods.

I know there's bits and pieces of this information floating around in different threads, but it'd be helpful to have it in one place...at least for me.

    Rich...

The first thing to do if you want it to be period correct is to get a copy of the Bulletin published in March 1968 describing available and approved Sports Purpose modifications to 911's of the day. The originals are rare and crazily expensive but I have a copy that I would be glad to share. There's a lot of interest in this kind of build right now and I'm thinking it might useful if I scan in my copy and post it online. I can also snail mail you a copy.

What I'm trying to do with my '67 is build a Sports Purpose car (mostly) following the guidelines in the Bulletin - a car that a privateer would have ordered and/or built in the day.

There's a great thread here that contains a lot of vintage rally pictures and information that you might have seen:

and even more in a thread here:

    DDK

Great project! That was truly a golden era.

John, Great links, thanks. I don't think I've seen the DDK one before.

Also, PM sent on the snail mail copy of the Sports Purposes bulletin.

I believe there's also a 67 edition called "Porsche for the competition driver"
which I only have a few pages of. Or perhaps it's only a few pages long.

The 68 booklet which I have (a copy) is called "Information regarding
Porsche vehicles used for sports purposes", this is the same thing
as the link I posted above.

    Andy , you're right.

I've both 1967 and 1968 original copy (John, correct, they are EXTREMELY expensive now)

The difference is that in 1967 there are some drawings and some more infos.

But the 1968 is full of informations to make a correct Sport Propouse Car.

John, when i'll finished my 68S we must share some informations.
