Well, I limited my voting to my top four even though I have half of the accessories listed for my car. I like to think of it as playing Barbie...cough cough....I mean GI Joe.

Whats weird is TTG lights was not in my top four.

no.. i would draw the line there. if i wanted a lux touring car type 911/2 i think muffler skirt, stock seats in leather w/ matching leather interior, square weave, wood dash, wood wheel, wood amco knob, below the bumper fogs, stock early lights, rear wiper, factory luggage, stock chromies with enamel hub caps, or 14 inch polished fuchs.

This thread went dark a loong time ago, but I just had to chime-in.

For me, most of the more common sports purposes upgrades just look so "right"... having said that, I also do rally my car, and very often find that those things are not only cool little bits to bolt-on, but are also really necessary or helpful to me as a "sports" driver.

Here is my list in order of importance:

1. comfy and safe seats, with relatively high side bolsters and six-point ports
2. comfy and safe seat belts - I recently got a set of RePa tagged six-point belts from Bill @ vintageseatbelts.com and they are simply fantastic
3. slightly smaller diameter steering wheel, with a slightly fatter grip - I have a 380mm Prototipo
4. better headlights - I added some Hella H4s and I'm much happier
5. adjustable bump steer kit and turbo tie rods - our cars get (really) spooky when lowered without a proper bump steer kit
6. light wheels - I like the look of steelies, but they are just too heavy...for me it's 6R and 7R Fuchs, they just look so right
7. easily adjustable suspension - my Weltmeister adjustable spring plates and Koni Sports allow a lot of flexibility for different surfaces
8. front and rear sway bars
9. ST front strut tower brace - this really helps
10. oil breather bottle
11. front oil cooler(s) - I run the lines and cooler off an 89 Carrera - it never gets above 200F
12. period correct-ish roll bar with a cross-bar for shoulder belts - more for chassis stiffness than anti-roof-collapsing, but both are good
13. 100L fuel tank - Rick's point about not having to stop for gas all the time is well-taken - Eric, when are your tanks gonna be available?
14. more horsies & better brakes - my car has a big-port 3.0L with Webers.... good brakes are key
15. tool storage - I purchased a 911R style tool bin from Eric... very handy and period-correct bit of rally kit
16. original Cibie palas hood lights - they do look weird (Rick), but I have come to really like them, and they are daymakers when you need it most
17. RSR style jack points - I got tired of un-phuquing the little seam that goes around the bottom edge of the floors and added RSR plates
18. fog lights - in any location - I don't do it that often, but running in the fog at night can't be done without them
19. sport exhaust - it just sounds better

I haven't had the time or cha-ching to do all of these yet, but they are all coming. Here's a photo from a rally two weeks ago:

I've been kinda going through this with my Everyday

First thing I ditched? . . . = drivers seat. The 'sports seats' in my old e30 are sourced from none-other-than Recaro. And easy 50 lbs/ea. (Yup --- 2nd thing I ditched was the pass seat. Dog sits there, anyway.)

'Course --- I replaced the drivers with another Recaro . . . a Pro-Fi XL . . . . . = ~$1100

Ditched all the non-essentials in the trunk, too . . . just a full-sized spare + jack + tool kit left. Could ditch that spare, too --- another (~40 lbs?) . . . + go with a can of Gorilla Snot + AAA card, taking the total weight <2500 lbs?, but --- I digress . . .


Back to Porsche . . .

Replace front seats w/ suitable GRP replicas (= -50 lbs)
Ditch the back seats --- no replacements (= -5 lbs)
Replace bumpers w/ GRP replicas (= -40 lbs)
Replace hood w/ GRP replica (= -15 lbs)
Replace engine cover w/alu bit (= -5 lbs)
Ditch glove box door, clock, radio + antenna (= -3 lbs)
Replace carpet w/ rubber mats (thin) (= -5 lbs)
Replace door cards w/ RS-type (= -5 lbs)
Remove spare + carpeting from front trunk (= -30 lbs)

Total = estimated ~150 lbs . . .

. . . from, what? . . . 2400 lbs?
