Thread: Vital equipment in your trunk

  1. #21
I never go anywhere very far in my 911 without a jack stand.

Along with tools and parts to fix minor stuff like fuel pump/dme relays, clutch cable adjustment, fan belt/fuel pump replacement - a jack stand could be the one thing that could actually save my life. There is not always a big rock or block of wood around when you need one.

You guys bring everything but the kitchen sick. Do you have to quarter balance your car at the beginning of every trip

Harry..if you get stuck in Farmington, post it on this website and i'll send my wife with the trailer.
Seriously...the 356 Registry has a TAN, travel assistance network. If you volunteer to be listed as a resource in case a member needs assistance while traveling in their 356, you receive a listing by state of other member volunteers who will help you. There are hundreds of 356 volunteers and it is not a published list. You can opt to only list your phone number or e-mail address.
Maybe this Registry should attempt to do something similar.

Dave, the 912 registry tried to do it, but it lost momentum (someone started it, then i took over later on).

I think it is a valuable asset to have a TAN.

i know i pack alot of stuff, but remember, the big list is for cross country trips. alot can go wrong. its not like i pack a p&c kit, or valve springs, or a crank. in all honesty what i do bring doesnt take up too much room -2 smallish boxes. the tools go in a tool bag, most have their own 'holders' that they go in. i have had many weird road issues.. distributor clamp was over tightened and stripped by a local wrench, and the timing eventually retarded when i got to utah, and lit up the solex and K&N air cleaner. i had a fuel pump go out on me in the middle of the nevada desert. i've had exhuast gaskets eventually leak on me (pita, but not the end of the world to repace with the engine in). ive replaced starters on the road (that i didnt carry but was able to buy in cali after i bump started half way across the continent).

ive never had to use the spare electrical wire, but its not a bad idea, just in case. heck it light and small. ive used bailing wire to hold up sagging tin once, and ive used loctite blue to hold on a broken shift knob on a cross country trip. i have also had to replace a broken pully on the side of the road during a trip once. what can i say.. **** happens. the worst was a broken valve spring durng my 1st cross country trip.. that i wasnt prepared for. marco knows this story well (hell he wrote about it in excellence).

locally, i feel only minimal tools are needed -spare pully belt is a must, and tools to do that and change a tire. the wrenches and ratchets are just in case. screw drivers are kind of an obvious thing too.
