    Wheel alignment

Is it possible to pay $600.00 for a wheel alignment. The car needed no parts whatsoever. I questioned this when I received the invoice and argued that most charge $250.oo to $300.00, but I was told that "you never got our wheel alignment" Sound like complete bs to me.

    Am I crazy!

John, at MOST, form the VERY BEST in LA, $350 including corner balance. $600 is WAY out of line, imho....And I've had my share done, everything from my 356 to my GT3.

Did you have the RS done ?- maybe they priced it based on value of the car !!

That's way over the top -- I just had my Cayman S done at a main dealer and it was less than half you were being charged.

Aligned and corner balanced for about $350 at a race shop near Baltimore. Never again will i go to a dealer or 'garage' for that kinda stuff. These guys understand billing for actual time and not per some bull**** book multiplied by some factor involving the value of the car. Not to mention it takes a hell of a lot of car to impress such folks so when they see my old 911 rolling up they don't get $$ signs in their eyes.

And that price included a conversation with the tech who sets up race cars for a living regarding what settings i would be most happy with.

Did anybody ask you how you use your car? To me that is where a lot of the value is. An autox alignment is not necessarily the same as a track alignment and neither are the same as a street alignment.

The car is aligned according to specific specs or it isn't.

Seems like this Porsche repair shop beat me up pretty good. It was corner balanced, but whooooo, I got the "you pay us twice edition".

Well, They will never see me again. There is a side of me that would love to go at them a bit, but they are associated with many local Porsche clubs and national chapters. It would stir things up a bit! I guess, if I did not give a sh__, it would not matter much.

I have to give this one some thought.

$150 for an alignment, $125 for a weight balance (this is from the best in the PNW). Anything more is a rip off. I do these both at least once a year on my track car.

    align and balance

No idea what it cost but it sure makes a difference.

Did they provide you with a diagram showing the alignment specs and corner weights?

They gave me no printout of alignment specs, etc. or corner weight information, but gave me the explanation that I have never had their wheel alignment before.

Karl; I am with you on this. They are out. Done. I love the fact that these guys sew themselves into the Porsche community be being members of associations, showing up at shows and acting like the "local" guys that do good business. I will pm their name to you.

Here is another good one. I asked that they re-glue the carpeted tunnel mat as one section was popping up. The seats were already out as they were being re-covered. They billed me 1.9 hours to remove the tunnel mat and re-glue it. I usually do that kind of silly stuff myself, but got busy at work and with the car already there, I though it could be no more than a half hour of labor. When I asked about the carpet issue, I was told (you never had a carpeted tunnel mat re-glued here) that they spent a great deal of time cleaning the tunnel and mat of all the old glue. These guys are full of themselves. That rug is out in 5 minutes, cleaned up fast and in in ten minutes. The car had no odor of chemicals that remove glue, so I think I have another b/s story.

It would be great to have a hidden camera in their shop the entire time the car was there.
