Here's several detailed photos of the paint code decal along with the compliance plate. I understand that only U.S. cars had the compliance decals with the production date and VIN stamped out.

Here's another data point in support of Karmann cars having rivited paint code placard. Car was built in 12/69. I apologize for image being sideways. Can't seem to fix it.

1973 , built in 7/72 (with different sevens)
From what I’ve just read on here I believe it was originally silver ?
and that might change the outcome of this project as it currently has silver front fenders mounted and I like the colour ...

    Hello,

Does anyone know what the second line refers to ? Is it from factory ? It's on a 73S which was sandblasted so no more trace of the original color.

The second line was not part of a factory badge. So my guess would be that a painter stamped his own code on the badge at some point in the past. The stamp appears to be SIK LN17; SIK may mean Sikkens.
131 is the code for Light ivory (almost white) and the 2 means the original paint manufacturer was Glasurit.
Can you provide the VIN please; PM is fine.

Thanks, seller says the second line would be LN1A and not LN17, LN1A which is Californiagelb (california yellow) in VW.

As the digits are not the same height and form between the 2x lines (at least for the 1) I suppose it's not from factory at least. For the VIN I don't have the full number to provide.
